One part comfort, one part creepy

A combination of an ever growing population, closed-circuit television and mobile communications devices, means that it’s harder to be alone than ever before… but tell me why then, that nearly everyone I meet is lonely in some way.

I just hang out on top of buildings. The more difficult to get to, the better. With the added bonus that, if you’re up high enough, you can drop your cell phone and smash it, if you feel so inclined.

People feel lonely because they want interaction, not merely to be in the same area as others. This gets even more complicated when they seek a specific type of interaction- romance, talking about interests, playing obscure board games… Living in Korea I’ve had my share of both loneliness and everybody-out-of-my-face-ness.

I tend to think people feel lonely because they long for a deeper connection but unfortunately most people are too wrapped up in their own problems to truly understand another human being. Then again, that might just be my problem, and to be honest even though I feel lonely sometimes most of the time I’d rather be alone because people in general bug the living shit out of me.

Mike - I’m sorry but the top of buildings leaves you open to Google Earth.

TGJB- Naah, I don’t think it’s looking for a deeper connection. It’s definitely the board game thing.

This cartoon reminds me of the Massive Attack video, Angel.
I love to be in a moshpit or a packed out dance floor, so many ppl that no one will be looking at me and I’m alone.
I just watched this video PostSecrets - Sia and it makes me feel alot less alone.

    Nice link, good video.

The site’s OK too, but sometimes I get the feeling that some of them are contrived…

i feel like that sometimes at school! did you know theres people everywhere in my school? there is nowhere that is not filled with people!

Yeah, school’s a bit like that… an artificial concentration of people that you would never find in one place if it were up to them. Perhaps in the future they’ll introduce ’solitary booths’ in public places like schools where you can just go to escape everyone else… Though they’re probably open to some serious abuse.

When I was at school I found the library to be deserted often enough, books act as a deterent to noisy people.

our library is usually quite the hub of activity. we have these tiny music rooms where our private lessons are held, and half of the are al;ways empty. i go there when i need some quiet. always a little awkward when someone walks in looking for a lesson, though.

I used to use the music rooms at my school too… The music teacher tolerated me sitting in the rooms because I once caught him drunk at school.

no way! why has this never happened to me??
i find this conversation depressing, but the point youre making in the comic/post is satisfying because youve kind of pinpointed how i feel sometimes.
technology is sometimes fruitless, and fruitlessness annoys me.

There has to be a great pun in there somewhere, about technology being fruitless, especially when you consider Apple and their raft of i-inventions.

heh, yeah. i love puns. puns are my prime concern.

I know this dude that did a webcomic that featured a i-invention that failed and cost some one their entire social life.
Can’t remember who for the life of me.
Hmmm will have to ponder upon it.
Maybe it will flow thru the fields of my mind and in a moment of unity my brain will remember.

Sounds like a right chump… everyone knows webcomic types don’t have social lives anyway ;)
