I first encountered the ‘blending sponge experiment’ whilst studying cellular orgainsation – it’s a good one to roll out in front of bored freshmen.

Strangly enough I was discussing sponges with someone this week and the question asked was ‘how deep would the ocean be if there was no sponges’. Adam I know your scientific mind will sort this one for me.

That was the power of Cool Jerk, from the minicomic Cool Jerk and Homo Gal by Sean Bieri. He got his power from planarian worms, though. Homo Gal’s only power was being a lesbian, and arguably that wasn’t even a super power at all. She did have a gun, though.

SPONGE MAN! He can’t be killed, he will reform himself! Unless you set him on fire, then maybe he can be killed! Sponge Man is not clear on the anatomical properties of sponges!
