Secure in the knowledge

Security is a funny thing… it always has a cost.

And recently, there has been a lot of talk about freedom… turns out security is a major part of that.

I was reading about this – The Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act of 2007.

The bit that worries me is where it says:

Anarchists, who resonate with the claim that international trade and commerce are, in fact, a mask designed to hide and covertly advance U.S. global economic, cultural and political power.

Now, I’m not an anarchist, but I though everyone felt like that… except that trade and commerce are not really a mask for economic, cultural and political advancement – they are economic, cultural and political advancement.

Does that mean I’m a ‘homegrown terrorist’? No. Though if I was I would be at least organic and locally grown.

They’ve confused terrorism with activism… riot with protest…

And that’s the cost, to be judged not on your actions or intent, but on what you believe.

I can’t say that makes me feel safe.

If it’s not a Fairtrade terrorist, it’s unethical.

Unethical terrorism is the worst kind too…

Do you think the various groups across the globe have meetings about how to reduce their carbon footprint?

Theres always trade-offs in life. Security instead of liberty, liberty replacing security. The government can never please anyone. There will always be someone protesting this or being active about that. Its just a fact of life. Some person will always come up with a crackpot rumor that others will believe and follow.

Reacting to fear, rather than to what’s right,
only causes more fear. It’s a false security.

its ironic that whilst at war, supposedly, for another countries freedom our own rights are being continually restricted.

Yeah, you’ve probably guessed that I’m very much against the idea of holding anyone without charge…

…that said, I doubt Brown will be able to push it through. I have a feeling that this will be his ‘poll tax’.

Perhaps, rather than confusing ‘terrorism with activism… riot with protest…’, they are conflating them? If they become the same and one is considered to be wrong, then the other becomes wrong as well?

I am really enjoying working my way through these archives - I wish that I had found your comic sooner since everything about the site is so well done!
