Stay in your shell
I’m not a coward, I’m just bullet shy…
And with good reason, I mean, has anyone realised how dangerous those things are? Health and safety should be on it pronto.
There’s been a fair bit of news about the deaths of British soldiers abroad. I think I’m in the majority when I say that despite my opposition to some conflicts, I have a large deal of respect for the people actually fighting them.
Except when they do such things as treat prisoners as animals, or worse.
Watching action films, you would think that you could probably take a few bullets before you start to feel them… and that even if you do you can still run around like a nutter with seemingly little impairment.
Just not true… ask someone that has been shot.
And that’s where the respect comes from. I imagine that soldiers get a lot more opportunity to speak to people that have had a bullet enter their person, and yet they don’t let that put them off.
Here’s a short video on ballistics. I thought you might like to watch something get shot. In this case it is milk containers – I’m not sure what the assailant has against them, but he means business.
Did you notice the pro-hollow argument? I found that really odd. Surely they should be making these things less likely to kill someone outright… sorry ’stop’ (which seems to be a euphemism for ‘kill’ in this context).

I concur with the view that I have respect for soldiers without having support for the way they are often used. At the same time, I think it’s fair to say that there is a need for some positive intervention… the issue just being how to ensure that it’s positive.
Ugh. I think I could write a huge rant on the concepts of “just war” and “principled war”, but I think I would just bore and/or annoy everyone, so I’ll avoid it. Can’t we just stop killing people?
“Can’t we just stop killing people” – Yeah, you’d think we could… but apparently not.
Feel free to rant, this is a good as place as any. Get it out of your system… I tend to do just the same at the television.
An intervention you say? I believe these days that is seen as an agressive act, consider yourself at war.
Interesting video.
I have a fair degree of interest in ballistics, so I enjoyed it.
Getting shot must hurt, I’m always amused at how lightly hollywood portrays it
Did you notice that the demonstrator thinks being shot by a normal, non-hollow round would do little to stop someone? Maybe he’s been watching to many films.
I’m trying to think of the worst offender, film-wise, for that sort of thing. It’s probably something with Schwarzenegger in it.
Actually winging somebody with a .22 or similar probably *won’t* stop them, especially if they’re drug-addled. Also, you really can’t underestimate the power of shock, adrenaline, and natural *ines, etc.
I’m agreeing with Davey.
Getting winged, rather then a critical hit, with a normal bullet, may not be enough to prevent the person retaliating.
Our police AFAIK use hollow points to quickly neutralise or kill the person they are shooting at.
I think that they figure that if it comes to shooting, killing the person is the safest option.
Also, ppl can take a massive amount of damage before they start to slow down.
That being one of the funnest things about shock.
Still not impressed with this keyboard:(
I kinda like the ergos…
That video scares me.
And rightly so, humans are made out of 60% recycled milk carton.
I have never taken a bullet, but I’m still pretty sure I’m allergic to them.
Unfortunately, most non-perscription anti-histamines have little to no effect on gunshot allergies.
…and I’ve been shot by air-powered pellet rifles at close range. It stings. I’ll say too it didn’t stop me, just pissed me off. : )
A pissed off Davey is far more dangerous… if you do shoot, shoot to kill. I hear the weak spot is just below the ankle.
Shhhh. But, uh, I’d say a pissed off Davey is probably more fun than a pissed Davey.
