70s unplugged

I’m almost too indignant to write…

I was sat finishing off today’s comic when Em walks past with a rather nice chocolate dessert. ‘I would have got you one, but you’re still colouring in,’ she said.

I’m not sure which is worse, the slight against my artwork or the lack of dessert.

Anyway, as I recover I thought you might be interested in sharing some of my cultural heritage – The North may well be known for it’s industrial past, or perhaps its love of pies, but when the men and women left the factory and finished their pastry-wrapped meat they liked to cut loose a little. They called it Northern Soul.

Footage taken at the legendary Wigan Casino.

    Are they wearing penny loafers?

The lack of dessert is worst.
    Atleast it wasn’t just deserts.

Like single person swing dancing, with a touch of tap thrown in. Interesting.

I feel I have to defend myself a little against this post.

When Adam draws he usually concentrates so hard that any kind of communication is impossible, so I thought offering chocolate mousse would be rather pointless.
And yes, I did refer to what he was doing as colouring in, but it is very good colouring in and he nearly always stays inside the lines :)

What I learnt from this encounter was that Adam is never too busy for chocolate and that referring to his artwork as colouring in is a bad thing.

From now on pudding will always be offered, I will now only talk of ‘filling in’ and hopefully my wife points will rise again!

I think you’ll find that stage is called ‘inking’…

      humph.

Still, good news on the chocolate front.

Either way, I’ll laugh about it all weekend.

It could be worse: Sarah refers to my art loosely as “throwing paint,” and the music I listen to while painting as “car crash noises.”

Throwing paint to car crash noises… there’s a very cool title for a biography.

and roo, you have to write your autobiography
in your underpants or it doesn’t count.

Hahahaha! The irony is, I’m sitting at the computer in nothing but my underpants right now!

(Don’t give me that look… it’s bloody hot in here!)

It is always good to learn a new technical term.

at least she makes the attempt to understand what you do, she may not get all the terms right, but she’s trying, and thats whats important. and i think its a common link for men everywhere, there is always time for deserts.

Oh, Em knows, but she taunts me so.

I could build a time-travelling machine out of scrap computers and a bathtub… ‘Are you still tinkering with your meccano set?’

That is their job and their right. you just have to love and accept them for it. and occasionally tease back.

If you ever built a time-travel machine, you’d have to consider not being able to buy anything unless you can lay your hands on old money.

The US bills from the 70s might not look so different from the 80s or 90s bills, but anything in the 21st century is going to be vastly different.

Coins too. Quarters and nickels from the 90s could get you some candy and coffee, but anything from the 21st century on? niet.

Unless you only planned to go back a few hours or days or weeks in time.

As in Back to the Future, you just have to amass a collection of contemporary money from as many time periods as possible. As a quick workaround, you could go back aways further, lay your hands on a petty sum of money and deposit it in a savings account, allow interest to accrue so when you go forward you can withdraw whatever you need.

Or you could just be like the Doctor and manage to not ever need money. But that’s not a talent everyone has.

Just a fast one for Adam and others that use tablets for their work.
I have started a discussion at this site:
    http://www2b.abc.net.au/science/techtalk/
    about tablets.
I am looking at getting one and I am asking advice.
Membership at that site is free and it allows faster times for the replies to get posted.

The thread title is “Tablets” and it is posted by Lary, and can be found in the left hand colum.
    Contributions would be appreciated

    Cheers
