Cabinet shuffle

So maybe Ms Palin is right, and maybe we really are in the end of days… the world’s economy collapses apace and the (politically) dead have started to rise again.

Take the UK’s very own Peter Mandelson, Mandy for short. He’s been dead so many times that I’m starting to wonder why anyone hasn’t realised that he’s a zombie and started aiming for the head.

Appointed as the Labour Party’s ‘Director of Communications’ in 1985, whilst still alive, he acquired the nickname of ‘The Prince of Darkness’. That should have been a clue about his potential undead status… but he happily remained a day walker, helping Labour (or more accurately ‘New Labour’, or ‘Risen Labour’) to win the general election in 1997 as a campaign director.

He even got a chance to create his own temple of unholiness – The Millennium Dome, which he used to channel life force from the electorate for later use.

Then in December 1998 came his first death. He was caught using some dodgy money to buy up property… a massive interest free loan, undeclared, from a businessman who was being investigated for ‘irregularities’. He was buried on the 23rd of December, following some sort of black mass.

He rose again less than a year later, in October 1999, under the disguises of ‘Secretary of State for Northern Ireland’. Unfortunately, he was still weakened as the Dome had not been completed before his death, that and the fact that he had been caught arranging passports illegally for some of the investors in the dark structure… By January 2001 he was dead again.

People were starting to get suspicious about his ability to keep appearing all over the place, when he should have been lying still in an eternal slumber, so it was thought best if the next incarnation was re-animated in Europe. He appeared here under the names ‘Manferatu’ and ‘European Commissioner for Trade’ in 2004.

Having regained his strength, and with the systematic wiping of the minds of the UK’s electorate he was able to return to the shores of the UK (I think the ship arrived in Whitby) on the third of October this year…last week… his arrival was marked by a strange fog that enveloped the city.

We can only assume his intentions are that of pure evil.

what with our luck being what it is, I’d hardly expect the end of the world to come just when we need it most

Yeah, the end of the world is unreliable… you wait ages for one and then three come along at once.

He must be one of Dick Cheney’s minions for he is truly the most evil thing anyone can imagine. I mean the guy doesn’t even have a heart anymore and everyone is aware of that fact. According to Wikipedia Dick had his first heart attack in 78.

I do believe you are correct!

Wow, a heart attack and twenty years later he’s still shooting people. That’s classic dark lord that is.

Unfortunately, there are many people- politicians and otherwise- that are able to escape any real punishment for their actions while those who’ve committed lesser bad acts stay dead and buried.

It reminds me of a passage from The Handmaid’s Tale:

“Maybe none of this is about control. Maybe it isn’t really about who can own whom, who can do what to whom and get away with it, even as far as death. Maybe it isn’t about who can sit and who has to stand or kneel or lie down, legs spread open. Maybe it’s about who can do what to whom and be forgiven for it. Never tell me it amounts to the same thing.”

Ooooh, politics to feminism! Margret Atwood is great, isn’t she?

Does this mean we can grumble about how stupid it was for the Republicans to think that feminists would vote for Palin, just cause she’s a woman?

Atwood’s fantastic. I loved The Penelopiad as well.

It was idiotic of the Republicans to try that tactic for marketing Palin. Her town charging rape victims for their own rape kits was enough on its own to demonstrate how anti-woman she is.

“This above all, to refuse to be a victim. ”

That’s an Atwood quote. And the whole thing about charging for rape kits is just sick.

No intelligent woman would vote for a “woman” so blatantly against woman’s rights.

So Whitby isn’t NORMALLY completely shrouded in fog?

    1. Adam Identicon Icon Adam on 08.10.2008 at 19:21 (Reply)

Well, yeah it is, most of the buildings are actually built from fog, it was the only naturally available resource…

i wish i knew what was going on in america, it sounds so interesting
if im going to study politics i should PROBABLY be keeping an eye on current affairs outside of my own country
exams have taken over my life!
i learnt last term in school about stupid politicians who do stupid things and then ministerial responsibility falls apart and nothing happens to them
some people get really riled up about how corrupt political systems can be and im not one of those people, it doesnt really bother me, what bothers me is the stupidity exhibited by some of the idiots
