Golden boy

I’m technically homeless at the moment… and without constant internet access. And whilst this situation is soon to be resolved, I’m going to rely on you to keep me in touch with the world at large.

Your comments here get sent to my mobile phone… which, fortunately, even as a transient, I can carry in my bindle.

So, I want you to tell me what’s happening, what’s caught your eye in the news or general goings on.

Have you caught the ‘flu yet?

Are you, like Ben, celebrating a birthday this week?

Happy birthday Ben!

So then, what’s going on?

[Edit: I will also, due to slightly less than popular demand, be setting off on a twitterthon this week... again through my telephone mostly. I'm hoping to score one for every half hour I am awake and at least one for every five hours I'm asleep. You can follow me here: https://twitter.com/Adam_Y]

    Live long and prosper!

Fires have been raging in Santa Barbara, CA and the culprit might be a power tool.

Nevermind the use of “boarder” instead of “border” in the first sentence.

Those malicious powertools… starting fires all by themselves.

I’d go out on limb and suggest that maybe some idiot using a powertool might have started it.

Ah, did I forget to tell you? I’m 18 now! That was last Thursday :)
Here in Australia they tell us we don’t have to worry too much about the flu, which is nice.

I found out the other day that one of my favourite bands, Hot Chip, plan to release a new album in early 2010.
Shaun Penn and Natalie Portman are apparently official now.

Two of my friends broke up and one of them has moved on with another member of our group, causing much controversy.

What more could you need to know?

I like how those two developments are next to each other. Who knew someone could tire of Robin Wright.

Many Happy Birthdays seem to be in order! Happy birthday Ben, Justine, Beemoh. I trust you all partied, or will party, thoroughly.

In my world, I’m still employed, despite being sure I’d be laid off this past week. I’m not sure if I’m disappointed or happy about it though.

The new Amazon Kindle DX is out, to rather unenthusiastic reviews. It’s got a 9.7 inch display, which is suppose to make it good for newspapers and magazines, but they hiked the price to 489 USD for it. Not enough increase in size to justify that expense, in my mind. Maybe if it were full-sheet, and colour, or something.

That’s all I got for the moment. More news as it happens.

I slept all day and the mail carrier left me one of those “Sorry I Missed You” cards because they chose to deliver my new tricycle seat the one day I’m the only person in the house.

My writer’s block is even worse but I did some paintings with oil pastels but now I’m out of pastels and I don’t have any money to buy more.

It looks like they put Denzel Washington and John Travolta in a new movie involving a subway train that I hope I never have to see because I hate both those guys. In fact I can’t decide which one I hate more, but I guess Travolta as he is more flagrantly awful.

The new Star Trek was pretty damned good, I was particularly impressed by Karl Urban’s portrayal of Dr. McCoy. Note I am a major Trekkie.

Not much interestingness is happening in the world here.
We have a referendum on daylight saving very soon, do we want it or not. Apparently, it has the entire state of Western Australia polarised into two equal sized camps.
According to most sources, the average Western Australian doesn’t really have an opinion on anything else.
My wrist is out of the cast, healing and gaining strength slowly :D

A 30yr old american plumber gave birth to his twin brother, in a scene that was describe as being like something out of the first Aliens movie. I personally suspect it was more like some thing out of the scene where I removed a splinter from my thumb last weekend.

In an event that can only be describe as being subtley ironic, termites have been described as a miners best friend. This earnt a uni student a Phd, even tho, Africans have been extracting gold and other minerals from termite mounds for a long, long time now (or longlong if you are talking in pidgen). None of the Africans were given Phd’s.

Are you going to vote Ben? What is your official state of residence anyway? Being only just 18 I am pretty pleased that I get to vote. Don’t know what I am going to choose yet.

      1. Ben Identicon Icon Ben on 12.05.2009 at 11:42 (Reply)

I don’t really have a solid place of residence at the moment, tho that is something that I am working on.
As for what I will be voting, I won’t be voting at all. I am not a resident here and I am not on the electoral role. If I were a resident, I would still avoid voting anyway.
Personally, I hate the concept of daylight saving, I think it is one of the stupidest things that humanity has ever invented. I think that the kind of ppl that like daylight savings are also the kinds of ppl that don’t care if it fades their curtains more then normal (/tic).
I think if ppl want an extra hour of day light in their day then they should get up earlier or learn what the meaning of self sacrifice is.

Are you in a similar position to me, where you are couch surfing, staying with mates, waiting for a stable home to become available, or something else entirely?

    So, news, erm…..

Well, a fuel tanker explodered a few suburbs over, two days ago.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5m-VgWwfh0c <– Video

Our state government just spent a shite load of moolah to hold a referendum on whether or not we want day light savings.
531,786 people said no, 426,531 people said yes and the count is still going on from last night, however, it is in the bag for NO.
Both sides were filled with dickheads and wankers, the entire state was polarized and many bitter and spiteful words were exchanged.
Interestingly, both sides of the debate argued that DLS is responsible for childhood obesity.
Personally, I voted NO (would have if I was allowed to vote). Mostly because I think it is a stupid idea. The only reason it was put to the polls was that it was an unimportant issue, but, ppl like to think that they have an effect in what goes on in parliement, forgetting entirely that they elected some one to have an opinion for them so that they would not need to go to the polls for little things like this.
    blah I hate democracy.

Swine flu is killing less persons then regular flu does, so, no one really cares about it any more.
Seems that many ppl who were dieing were already ill with some thing else major anyway, so the flu alone didn’t really kill them as such.

This is a spider a friend found in their house. We have a reader here from Adelaide right? If you see one of these, DO NOT lick it, the hairs will make your tongue itchy.

The job market in Perth is looking pretty shitty right now. I suspect that any good jobs are going thru word of mouth and not being advertised.

I hear whisper in the wind of an epic new webcomic. Sneak previews reveal it to be of outstanding quality.

We want news from you too Adam.

    Thanks :)

It’s good to stay in touch, as the telecomunications adverts would have it. But more importantly, it’s been good to see the things that are normally only accessible through the internet.

I’ve entered the last week of homelessness, finishing on Friday. it hasn’t been too bad. I’ve been fed and watered, washed and sheltered by a combination of friends and family… all of whom have made me feel very welcome and without them I’m not sure I could have coped.

I could turn this into a lecture on how homeless people have a really rough time of things, and that if you should see a homeless person, and have some food or such that you can offer… but this isn’t the place for that, and besides I know everyone here is kind and considerate anyway.

I’m looking forward to retiring my bindle.

In other news, being out and about so much I’ve picked up a couple of new skills. Roofing being one of them. I was fixing a 110-year old slate out-house yesterday.

Happy birthday Justine! i hope you got loads of nice presents and cake and such…

I like the fact that I turn my back for one week and someone or something always breaks the laws of physics.

And Beemoh! You too, congratulations. How does it feel to be so old ;)

Great Joe, I agree, the new Trek was pretty good… I could have done with more Bones though. You ride a tricycle? Aren’t they the devil’s work? Awesome.

And Ben, how was your birthday…. I’m assuming debauched enough? I might have to rename you ‘BenCNN’ as your updates were fantastic. I was able to chat about the whole daylight saving thing as if I actually knew about it. I am very happy that Australia has finally banished chubby kids.

    1. Ben Identicon Icon Ben on 18.05.2009 at 15:26 (Reply)

No, no debauchery. I just cooked a nice dinner for my gf and two mates. We had a nice wine and some good food and relaxed.

Glad to hear that things will be resuming goodness in your life soon.

I also started painting and repairing my new room at a mates house.
The house was vacant for a long time and the son of the owner used the place for some wicked house parties, raves and doofs. There was at one time, over 800 ppl in the house and back yard.
My room was where the main dancefloor and DJ booth used to be. Currently painting over fluoro graffitti, picking up empty baggies and sweeping up god-only-knows from the floor.
We decided that the carpet was unsalvagable and ripped that out too.

I hope your relocation has less risk of needlestick then mine :D
